Te Kīwai Fund: Supporting Tamariki and Rangatahi Māori
The Te Kīwai Fund, a two-year pilot partnership between Sport NZ Ihi Aotearoa and Te Pūtahitanga o Te Waipounamu, is providing $850,000 to support around 2,400 tamariki and rangatahi Māori in Te Waipounamu. The fund offers up to $300 per child annually to cover costs like equipment, registration fees, shoes, and uniforms, helping remove barriers to physical activity.
This initiative, the first of its kind for Sport NZ, works alongside Te Pūtahitanga to ensure tamariki and rangatahi can enjoy and sustain participation in activities they love. By focusing on their interests and supporting whānau, the fund promotes long-term wellbeing and equity in sport.
The pilot will be evaluated to guide future policies aimed at reducing participation barriers for tamariki and rangatahi Māori. For more information and applications, visit Te Pūtahitanga o Te Waipounamu’s website. - https://sportnz.org.nz/resources/te-kiwai-fund/
